Madrassah Al-Ajamiyeh

On the left bank of the river, about half-way down the side of the hill on which stands the Château of Saint-Gilles, is the al-Ajamiya madrassah built in 1365 by Mohamniad al-Sukkar with the mausoleum of the donor attached. Over the lintel of the principal door facing west is an engraved dedicatory plaque . Allah forgive him! It was finished at the beginning of the month of Ramadan in the year 766 (May 22,1365).”” A narrow lane runs almost for a distance of one hundred yards beneath a vaulted passageway
