Madrassah Al-Nouriyah

Leaving the square in front of the Grand Mosque, by way of the vaulted passage-way beside Sultan an-Nasir’s school and in the direction of the main souk of Tripoli, one comes to the al -Nuriya madrasah, built by the Marnluk na’ib or governor Nur ed-Din in 1331 Its elaborate black and white stone portal has a unique decoration in the tympanum. Here we find a round white marble plaque around a circle from which emanate eleven stylized thunderbolts.
